I went through a gothic phase when I was about 14. Mom and Dad would call me out to the car to go, and I'd surprise them by being in all black with loads of eye make-up, plus my burgundy hair. No time to change, so I'd go door to door looking completely pissed off and miserable. Eventually they stopped making me go!

Door-Knocking (aka Door-to-Door) antics
by Jim_TX ini don't know why - but the other day, a memory popped into my head.
one from long ago.. it seems that i was out door-knocking, in a territory that had a church - most likely catholic church.
if i remember correctly, either i - or the person i was with - went up to the front door, and left one of the magazines in the front door - for the next person (assumedly the priest) to find.. at the time... i thought it funny as heck - and sniggled about it all the way home - mentalling the person finding the magazine in their door - and wondering where it came from.

this makes me sick
by burningbridges inmy soon to be ex husband takes my daughter, who is two and a half, to the meetings still because our divorce judge awarded him her on those nights since i didnt attend a place of worship at the time of our split.
(well duh, i was recovering from a cult) i recently found out she has been "answering" at the meetings.
(she is very advanced for her age, very talkative and articulate) i'm just sick from this.

Burning,
I am sick for you. As a mother to two little girls (9 and 4), I think I know how you feel. What JWs make their kids do to gain others approval is wrong and sick. At 2 1/2, no matter how smart or articulate your daughter is, she has NO concept of God, eternity, the Bible... He is whispering in her ear what to say.
Since I have formed my own beliefs about God I no longer allow my parents to take my kids to the KH occasionally. Really it was all about getting them "gussied up" in the nicest dresses and showing them off to their friends. Makes me sick to think I ever let them go.
Why don't you either go to a Unitarian church or just lie and say you are attending a church so the judge will keep your daughter from going there? It burns me that he is allowed to do that.
Best of luck with the divorce. Your ex-husband sounds like a real card.

Is the Patterson Elder School Info. Public Knowledge?
by neverendingjourney ini might have had my first post-fade slip up.
due to a temporary job, i've found myself back in my hometown the last few weeks.
i was pumping gas this morning when i was approached by the presiding overseer of my old congregation (technically my current congregation since i never bothered to change my publisher card).

Gary,
You're hysterical. It's a good thing you don't live down here though. Here in Florida you could kill a wife doing that, since it gets over 120 degrees in a car in about 15 minutes.

Do they teach elders how to be bonafide judmental assholes at elder school? I hope they haven't let the standards drop while I've been out of the WS playing and having fun. Because you know, since I've been out it's been nonstop drunken orgies and Satan worshipping, just like they told me would happen.

Hey Matthews,
I never felt as desired at 15 as I did at the Kingdom Hall! Where else would 30 year old men take an active interest in me?

The 144,000 doctrine. Basically that they out of the entire population of the planet that has existed for all time are the chosen ones who will go to heaven and only they may take Communion.
I smell bullshit.

need help please with letter to my dad
by atpeace ini haven't been posting lately - work is busy and all that.
so i get a letter from my dad yesterday.
he and family just recently visited.

Atpeace,
I feel for you. I have had similar problems with my own dad. My advice is to keep it simple like you said. The second you mention specific doctrine that you don't believe, a rift is sometimes formed, and all future communication is either them trying to convince you to come back, or avoiding you because you are now apostate. Just state that you are taking time to prayerfully reflect on what truth is and conducting an independent study of the Bible. They can't take issue with that.
I wish you luck,

Hey Butthead, before you totally check out of the Kingdom Hall, take a large bag with you and steal some TP for your bunghole. Then TP that ignorant elders' house.
Welcome!

Proud of my JW mother
by Alexia inno, shes not leaving the borg anytime soon, but she attended my grandmothers 83rd surprise b-day party yesterday.
this was probably the last time we will come together as a family.
there were relatives she neither one of us has seen for decades.

YAY Mom! She sounds like a level-headed woman. My family avoids birthday parties like the plague!
